Time is probably your most valuable asset. How you manage it makes the difference between thriving, surviving and burning out.

Many founders we spoke with have built habits, on purpose or by accident, that let them get the most out of their time, energy and focus. Clear goals and a steady routine keep the focus on what actually matters.

Sander Peltenburg says it like this. If you do not structure your day, your company will end up structuring it for you.

Check in with yourself

  • Do you get done what you want and need to get done?
  • Do you set clear priorities for the day, the week and the month, including personal ones?
  • Are you satisfied at the end of a working day?
  • Do you work on your effectiveness on purpose?
  • How many tasks are on your plate that you would rather say no to?

Acting on your effectiveness

There are plenty of myths about the perfect founder routine. We will not tell you to take a cold shower. It is about building a calm rhythm that lets you perform. Best at creative work in the morning. Block the morning. Want to exercise three times a week. Put it in the calendar. Then tell your team about it and hold the line.

  • Reflect on where your skills and your daily work line up, and where they do not.
  • Speak up about how you want to structure your week with your co-founders, your team and the people at home.
  • Work through your routines with a coach or mentor to break the pattern and adopt new behavior.
